Soft bristle toothbrushes with a fluoride toothpaste work well for most patients. A powered toothbrush like Sonicare or Oral B is also a good investment when it comes to your oral health.

What is gum disease?
Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is the #1 cause of tooth loss. It is an infection of the tissues that hold your teeth in place, typically caused by poor brushing and flossing habits. Up to 80% of the population has some form of it, with a higher prevalence in smokers and those with diabetes, but if caught early gum disease is generally easily treated with minimally invasive procedures. What causes canker sores?
No one is fully sure what causes canker sores, but genetics, allergies, stress, and vitamin and mineral deficiencies could play a role. You can treat a canker sore by rinsing your mouth with antimicrobial mouthwash or warm water and salt if that is more readily available to you. If you are prone to frequent recurrences of canker sores, please advise your dentist and medication can be prescribed to improve your comfort and speed the healing.
