Dental Health Basics: Tips for Improving Oral Health
The importance of dental health is likely something that was drilled into your head as a young child. Not only does an early start to proper dental health help you in the long term, but it also can help keep your general health in check too.
Your mouth is full of (mostly harmless) bacteria, which can be kept under control with regular care including brushing and flossing. Without the proper daily brushing and flossing, these bacteria may lead to oral infections (not fun!).
Dental Health Tips
Good oral health doesn’t have to be tricky or confusing. Here are four dental health tips to help you keep your mouth & teeth sparkling:
- Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle when brushing (not flat) and make sure you get all surfaces – inner, outer, and chewing.
- Don’t forget to floss. It helps keep the plaque between your teeth in check.
- Take the time. A good thorough brushing should last about 3 minutes. Take your time and make sure you get all the nooks and crannies!
- Keep your toothbrush fresh. Ideally every three months you should be using a new toothbrush/toothbrush head. The bristles on your brush are usually a great indicator of when it’s time to break out a new one.
And of course, don’t forget to come in for your regular dental check-ups!
